Grenadier
Grenadier is a tactical explosives mod for Minecraft 1.21.1, featuring distinct throwable grenades, freely deployable mines, volumetric smoke, and a reusable signal beacon.
Every device has its own gameplay role, model, texture, deployment behavior, and configurable parameters.
Features
Tactical Grenades
-
Smoke Grenade
Creates dense volumetric smoke that blocks sightlines, interferes with hostile mob targeting, and obscures players inside the cloud. Smoke grenades support dyed identification bands and matching smoke colors. -
Incendiary Grenade
Produces a persistent ground-level fire field. Its lower throwing force and longer burn duration distinguish it from the thermite mine's short, violent burst. -
Flashbang
Applies a distance-, direction-, and obstruction-aware flash effect. Targets looking directly at the detonation are affected more severely. -
Fragmentation Grenade
A conventional timed grenade with area damage and normal self-damage. Terrain destruction can be enabled or disabled through the server configuration. -
Impact Grenade
A compact contact-fused explosive that detonates immediately after striking a block or entity.
Deployable Mines
-
Anti-Personnel Mine
A low-profile pressure mine that triggers when a living entity steps directly over it instead of merely approaching it. -
Directional Fragmentation Mine
Detects targets inside a forward-facing sector and projects most of its fragmentation damage in that direction. -
Thermite Mine
Can be thrown and deployed on terrain. It delivers a high-damage, partially armor-piercing initial burst without knockback, followed by a short upward spray of flame and molten particles.
Deployed mines are entities rather than grid-locked blocks, allowing them to be positioned freely on suitable surfaces. Armed mines can also be detonated by vanilla arrows and compatible weapon projectiles.
Volumetric Smoke
Grenadier uses Veil-powered volumetric rendering instead of relying entirely on ordinary smoke particles.
Smoke can:
- Expand from the actual impact surface
- Flow downward from elevated or attached positions
- Reach the ground after an airburst
- Interact with hostile mob targeting
- Follow compatible moving physical structures through optional Sable integration
Signal Beacon
The reusable signal beacon creates colored smoke and a centered vertical beam. Its color can be changed with Minecraft dyes, while activation duration and cooldown are controlled by server settings.
Configuration
After opening a world for the first time, Grenadier generates its server configuration at:
<world>/serverconfig/grenadier-server.toml
The configuration includes:
- Smoke radius, density, deployment speed, and duration
- Fuse timing and projectile restitution
- Incendiary radius, damage, ignition, and duration
- Flashbang strength and effect duration
- Grenade explosion ranges and terrain destruction
- Mine arming delays and trigger parameters
- Thermite burst damage, armor penetration, splash damage, and flame duration
- Additional damage against tagged heavy targets
Modpack authors can copy a tested configuration to:
defaultconfigs/grenadier-server.toml
This applies it to newly created worlds.
Requirements
- Minecraft: 1.21.1
- Mod Loader: NeoForge 21.1.228 or newer
- Java: 21
- Client rendering dependency: Veil 4.1.4–5.0.0
Grenadier must be installed on both the client and server. Veil is only required on the client for rendering. If another compatible mod already supplies Veil, installing a duplicate copy is unnecessary.
Installation
- Install NeoForge for Minecraft 1.21.1.
- Place the Grenadier JAR in the
modsfolder on both the client and server. - Install a compatible version of Veil on the client.
- Launch the game and adjust the generated server configuration if desired.
