Create: Walking Steel is an addon for the Create mod that adds mechanical walking legs to the game. With this mod you can build walking machines, mechs, and any contraptions that move on legs instead of wheels or rails.

What it adds

The mod adds two blocks: the Mechanical Leg Base and the Mechanical Leg Foot. The base is mounted on your contraption and acts as the hip socket that drives the leg. The foot is spawned automatically in the world as a separate physics body connected to the base through a spring suspension system.

How it works

The leg base requires a rotating shaft to function. The faster the shaft spins, the faster and more responsive the leg moves. You control the leg through Redstone Link transmitters connected to the six frequency slots on the sides of the base block: forward, backward, left, right, up, and down.

The leg uses a physical spring constraint between the base and the foot, which means the foot reacts to terrain naturally. Under heavy loads the suspension stiffens automatically to prevent the contraption from collapsing.

You can extend the reach of the leg by right-clicking the base with springs. Each spring added increases the maximum leg length.

Gait modes

The leg has three control modes selectable with a scroll wheel on the base block.

Analog mode moves the foot proportionally to the signal strength in each direction.

Coordinated mode maps the signal strength directly to a target position relative to the base, useful for synchronized multi-leg setups.

Smart mode is the automated walking mode. The leg reads directional input and automatically cycles through a walking gait with terrain scanning. It lifts over obstacles, steps up ledges, and adjusts foot placement based on what is in front of it. In smart mode the up signal activates the leg and the down signal parks it back into a stowed position against the base.
